MOLO CHURCH
St. Anne Parish or known as “Molo Church” is
one of the most familiar tourist destinations in Iloilo City. The Gothic-Renaissance
style makes it famous among tourists or even locals located at the heritage
site in Molo District. It has been said
that this church also called the “feminist church” in Iloilo because of its 16
women saints statues placed each main aisle pillars of the church and its
prominent tall two massive belfries that even visible along the Iloilo river esplanade.
Built in 1831, under the guidance of Father Pablo Montaño and it was completed
by Father Agapito Buenaflor with the direction of Don Jose Manuel Locsin.
In front of the Church where you can find the
Molo Plaza along with the Greek Goddesses that makes the church more majestic
in the outside. At first I was fascinated how the structure and design last for
a long time even if this church being an evacuation center during the WWII. One
of the two tower have been destroyed by the Americans during the Second World
War after suspecting it was used by Japanese military forces.
When you arrived at the Molo Church, you will
be amazed by the tall and big Holy Door. Inside the church you will noticed its high ceiling with large paintings
on both sides. As you walk through inside the church you will be fascinated
with the arts and paintings above in a dome shaped structure. The altar is very
wide and stunning because of its castle like structure with a gold-plated
paint. Today, the Molo Church is fully-air-conditioned as part of the church
plan to make it more comfortable during masses time.
